Appeal made following assault in Basingstoke

Detectives investigating an assault on a man in Basingstoke are appealing for information.

It took place between 11.15pm and 11.55pm on Monday 25 December as the 25-year-old male victim walked along an alleyway that is near The Vyne Community School and leads to Queen Mary Avenue.

He said two males, described as being black and wearing dark jackets, approached and asked him for tobacco.

He refused and started to walk away, but as he did so he was hit on the head.

The victim was later taken to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester where he received stitches for a head wound.

Detective Constable Dan Leese said: “We are trying to establish the exact details of what took place.

“Did you go for a walk in this area on Christmas Day? Did you see what happened or notice anything suspicious? If so, we would like to hear from you.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting 44170498804.

Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
