What is Neighbourhood Watch & what does it do?

Our Mission. To increase awareness of crime issues in the neighbourhood, enhance public safety and keep personal property secure.

What is a Scheme?

For more information click on the Read More button. You can also download the co-coordinator's handbook and latest guides by clicking on the attachments.

Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) is a network of Schemes made up of local residents who take it upon themselves, voluntarily, to keep an eye out for any unusual, suspicious or criminal activity being committed and pass that information on to the Police and other service providers. Schemes are set up all over the North of Hampshire; currently there are about 580 Schemes. They are comprised of members of the public living in a street, neighbouring streets, villages etc. who want to work together to enhance their security. The membership for each Scheme can be anything from one member upwards.

NHW provides a further deterrent to crime and criminals by usage of NHW signs, normally erected on lamp posts or displayed on properties, which should alert potential criminals that they are being watched and could be reported to the police.

Each Scheme is headed by a volunteer coordinator who is responsible for circulating various crime reports from the police and others to each member of their Scheme.

Today that is generally made simple as most households have email. Members have direct access to the NHW and Police websites which offer a wide range of data on crime activity, information on where crime is occurring, appeals for help from the public etc.

Members can get discounts for home security measures, use HERMES to record data of all your major electrical equipment such as computers and expensive tools, as well as pictures of your jewellery or ornaments.

NHW nationally has made agreements with several companies which offer significant reductions to NHW members. There are also Smartwater discounts available. Please check the Special Offers at the top of this page.

If you are interested in being a member or setting up a Scheme up, please contact us using the contact us option in the main top menu. You can also send us an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We will be happy to assist you.
